Wasted Carafe
The Wasted Carafe brings the collection’s exploration of material reuse into the ritual of pouring and sharing. Created from reclaimed clay, reprocessed ceramics and surplus glazes gathered from Emma Louise Payne’s studio practice, each carafe contains traces of the materials and processes that came before it.
Its strong, architectural form takes inspiration from Brutalist structures, while ground fired clay is incorporated into the ceramic body to create a distinctive terrazzo-like texture. The result is a tactile object that feels both substantial and familiar, designed to sit at the centre of a table and become part of the experience of drinking together.
Available in four sizes, from a 250ml cocktail side car through to a 1 litre water jug, the collection moves from intimate pours to shared serving, giving waste material a new role in the rituals of hospitality.

Hand thrown in Emma’s studio using reclaimed clay and waste material gathered from previous making, each piece is shaped by hand and carries the character of the material it is made from.
Because the reclaimed clay comes from a variety of sources and has been through different stages of the making process, its composition is naturally inconsistent. This affects how each piece behaves and shrinks during firing, resulting in subtle variations in colour, size, shape and surface.
These variations are an inherent part of Wasted and make every piece lovingly unique and individual. No two pieces will be exactly the same, so please expect, and enjoy, the differences that come with handmade production.
