Hosted at 76 Sussex Square, London, The Objects We Live By brought together a diverse group of designers united by a shared commitment to material honesty, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. Set within the fully accessible lower-ground space, each maker was represented through a curated index display, offering insight into their practice alongside a featured object for closer study.

The exhibition showcased new works from Granite + Smoke, Nat Maks & Brogan Cox, Studio B.C. Joshua, Atelier Thirty Four, Daniel Mullin, David Irwin, and Gather Glass. From hand-tufted wool rugs made in Devon to marbled timber furniture inspired by Margate’s tidal landscapes, the collection celebrated tactile innovation and process-led design. Highlights included Irwin’s Hardy Chair, marking its tenth anniversary, and Gather’s vibrant table lamps that captured the spontaneity of molten glass.

As curator and host, Emma Louise Payne expanded her London Plane collection to include bowls, mugs, and pendant lights. Installed throughout the atelier, her ceramic tableware, lighting, and bespoke bathroom tiles embodied a deep appreciation for texture, function, and the quiet beauty of everyday rituals. Through this exhibition, Payne continued her mission to foster dialogue between craft, architecture, and the objects that shape how we live.
