Richard Goldsworthy combines traditional skills with experimental processes to explore the values and narratives of contemporary craft and art. In recent years, it has moved toward a more craftsmanship approach, guided by refinement and functional design. He create sculptural and functional works that merge wood and pewter through an ongoing exploration of material transformation.
Sourcing green wood is integral to his approach, as its provenance and drying behaviour shape the final form. Through carving, sanding and burning, he emphasize bold contrasts that celebrate natural features and imperfections, allowing the material to find its own voice.
By pairing wood with cast metal, Richard explores the interaction between different elements, creating a balance between raw and refined surfaces. Each piece embodies individuality and tactility, resisting standardised design while transforming everyday materials into meaningful, usable works rooted in craftsmanship and creativity.
